Born in Albion, Edwards County, Illinois. A resident of Auburn, Cayuga County, New York when he enlisted in the 19th New York Infantry for two years at Auburn, New York. Mustered in as a Private in Company A on 22 May 1861. Designation of Regiment changed to 3rd New York Light Artillery on 11 Dec 1861. Mustered out with Battery A at Auburn, New York. Re-enlisted in the 3rd New York Light Artillery for three years at Auburn, New York on 22 Feb 1864. Mustered in as a Private in Battery E the same day he enlisted. Transferred to Battery M on 30 Apr 1865. Mustered out with Battery M at Richmond, Virgina on 26 Jun 1865. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. A Delegate to the 1890 and 1914 Encampments of the Department of Washington and Alaska. Died in Los Angeles County, California.
