Born in Tazewell County, Illinois. Enlisted in the 43rd Missouri Infantry for one year at St. Joseph, Missouri. Mustered in as a Private in Company H at St. Joseph, Missouri on 17 Sep 1864. On 15 Oct 1864 during the Battle of Glasgow, Missouri he suffered a slight wound of his left hip. The Union forces were forced to surrender but were paroled the same day. On 29 Nov 1864 received a five day furlough to go home on a Surgeon's certificate. Promoted to Corporal on 1 Jan 1865. Mustered out with his Company at Benton Barracks, Missouri. Admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington on 27 Nov 1912. It appears he was discharged from the Soldiers Home in 1913. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Served as Post Commander in 1928. Died at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington.
