Born Germany. A resident of Cook County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 37th Illinois Infantry for three years at Manistee, Manistee County, Michigan. Mustered in as a Corporal in Company D at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois on 18 Sep 1861. Re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer for three years at Brownsville, Cameron County, Texas on 10 Feb 1864. Re-mustered as a Private in Company D at New Orleans, Louisiana on 28 Feb 1864. Mustered out at Houston, Harris County, Texas. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington on 23 Nov 1901 and discharged on 8 Mar 1904. Re-admitted to the Soldiers Home on 27 Jul 1909 where he apparently died. His headstone indicates he was a Sergeant but have been unable to locate a record to verify this.
