Born in Pennsylvania. A resident of Dubuque, Dubuque County, Iowa when he enlisted in the 46th Iowa Infantry for 100 days. Mustered in as a Private in Company A on 10 Jun 1864. Mustered out at the expiration of his term of service at Davenport, Scott County, Iowa. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington Territory. Admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California on 27 Mar 1899 and discharged at his own request on 11 Oct 1913. Re-admitted on 20 Oct 1914 and discharged at his own request on 1 Jun 1923. Re-admitted the final time on 13 Sep 1923 and died there.
