Born in Messena, St. Lawrence County, New York. A resident of Benton County, Iowa when he enlisted in the 8th Iowa Infantry. Mustered in as a Private in Company D the same day he enlisted. Re-enlisted and re-mustered as a Veteran Volunteer on 11 Jan 1864. Mustered out at Selma, Alabama. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Elected as an Alternate to the 1890 Encampment of the Department of Washington and Alaska. Later joined Col. E. E. Cross Post No. 90 of Shelton, Mason County, Washington. Served as Post Commander in 1894 and 1915-1918. He and his wife were admitted to the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil, Kitsap County, Washington on 27 Aug 1919. Died in the Washington Veterans Home Hospital at Retsil, Washington.
