Born in Morgantown, Monongalia County, Virginia (now West Virginia). A resident of Paris, Edgar County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 79th Illinois Infantry for three years at Paris, Illinois. Mustered in as a Private in Company D at Camp Terry, Illinois on 28 Aug 1862. Mustered out at Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Elected as an Alternate to the 1914 Encampment of the Department of Washington and Alaska. Died at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington.
