Born in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. A resident of Elkhorn, Brown County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 7th Illinois Cavalry for one year at Dixon, Lee County, Illinois. Mustered in as a Private in Company H the same day he enlisted. Mustered out at Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Elected as a Delegate to the 1910 and 1917 Encampments and as an Alternate to the 1915 and 1916 Encampments of the Department of Washington and Alaska, Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). According to his obituary, he was the third to the last of the surviving members of Custer Post No. 6. Died in Tacoma, Washington.
