Born in Eaton, Preble County, Ohio. He enlisted in the 54th Indiana Infantry for one year at Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana on 11 Oct 1862. Mustered in as a Private in Company C on 30 Oct 1862. Mustered out at the expiration of his term of service on 8 Dec 1863. The report of the Indiana Adjutant General indicates he served in Company D, but all other related military and pension records found indicates he served in Company C. Enlisted in the 17th Battery, Indiana Light Artillery for three years at Indianapolis, Indiana. Mustered in as a Private. Mustered out at Indianapolis, Indiana. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington on 25 Apr 1913 and dropped on 9 Sep 1916. Died near Collins Station, Pierce County, Washington.
