Born in Pike County, Illinois. A resident of Carlyle, Clinton County, Illinois when he enlisted as Quartermaster Sergeant of Company D, 15th Illinois Cavalry for three years. Promoted to Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant and transferred to Field and Staff (F&S). Mustered in on 17 Sep 1861. Mustered out at Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Elected as an Alternate to the 1907 and 1914 Encampments of the Department of Washington and Alaska, Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). Died at his home in Tacoma, Washington.
