Born in Illinois. He was a resident of Wauzeka, Crawford County, Wisconsin when he enlisted in the 31st Wisconsin Infantry. Mustered in as a Corporal in Company D. Promoted to Sergeant. Later promoted to 1st Sergeant. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Transferred to George H. Thomas Post No. 5 of Olympia, Thurston County, Washington, joining the Post on 18 Dec 1891. Serving the Post as Officer of the Day in 1892 and Adjutant in 1893. Admitted to National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California on 1 Apr 1919 and discharged at his own request later that year. Died in Seattle, King County, Washington.
