Born in Indiana. A resident of Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana when he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Company D, 49th Indiana Infantry. Mustered on 21 Nov 1861. Commissioned Assistant Surgeon on 27 Dec 1861. Resigned as 2nd Lieutenant on 9 Jan 1862 to accept promotion. Mustered as Assistant Surgeon on 10 Jan 1862 and transferred to Field and Staff (F&S). Resigned his commission. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Served as Post Surgeon in 1884, 1885, 1887, and 1888. Served the Department of Washington and Alaska, Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) as Assistant Quartermaster General for 1888-1889. Member of National Council of Administration, GAR 1889-1890. Died in Tacoma, Washington.
