Born in Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts. A resident of Gloucester, Massachusetts when he enlisted in the 2nd Massachusetts Infantry for three years at Boston, Massachusetts. Mustered in as a Musician 3rd Class in the Regimental Band, Field and Staff (F&S) the same day he enlisted. Mustered out and discharged with the Band at Washington, DC. Enlisted in the Brigade Band (1st Brigade, 1st Division, 20th Army Corps) as a Musician 3rd Class at Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts on 26 Oct 1864. Discharged at the expiration of his term of service at Washington, DC on 13 Jun 1865. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. On 5 May 1909 admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Hot Springs, Fall River County, South Dakota and discharged at his own request on 15 Oct 1909. Died in San Diego, San Diego County, California.
