Enlisted in the Brigade Band (1st Brigade, 1st Division, 20th Army Corps) as a Musician 3rd Class at Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts on 26 Oct 1864. Discharged at the expiration of his term of service at Washington, DC on 13 Jun 1865. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. On 5 May 1909 admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Hot Springs, Fall River County, South Dakota and discharged at his own request on 15 Oct 1909.
