Summary
Born in France. A resident of Marcellon, Columbia County, Wisconsin when he enlisted in the 49th Wisconsin Infantry. Mustered out at St. Louis, Missouri. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Died in Tacoma, Washington. Apparently, he was originally buried in Oakwood Cemetery (today Oakwood Hill Cemetery). His death record, obituary, government headstone application, and an article published in the Tacoma Daily Ledger on 25 May 1905 listing the names of soldier dead all indicate that he was buried in Oakwood Cemetery. Tacoma Cemetery records indicate he was buried there in 1907. Military records indicate that his first name is spelled "Lewis".
