Born in Jefferson County, Ohio. He listed his occupation as engineer when he enlisted in the 1st Northeast Regiment Missouri Infantry for three years at Fairmont, Clark County, Missouri. Mustered in as a Private in Captain Pledge's Company at Athens, Clark County, Missouri on 25 Oct 1861. On 31 Dec 1861 the 1st Northeast Regiment Missouri Infantry consolidated with the 2nd Northeast Regiment Missouri Infantry to form the 21st Missouri Infantry. Mustered in as a Private in Company H at Canton, Lewis County, Missouri on 1 Feb 1862. On 4 Apr 1862 suffered a severe accidental wound to his right hand at Pittsburg Landing, Hardin County, Tennessee. Mustered out at Corinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi on 23 Apr 1862. Discharged for disability at Corinth, Mississippi. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Died in Tacoma, Washington.
