Born in Maine. A resident of Kasota, Le Sueur County, Minnesota when he enlisted in the 2nd Minnesota Infantry for three years at St. Peter, Nicollet County, Minnesota. Mustered in as 1st Sergeant of Company E at Fort Ridgely, Minnesota on 5 Jul 1861. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant of Company E on 20 Mar 1862. On 22 Dec 1862 on detached service as Brigade Inspector. In Apr 1864 on detached service as Aide-de-Camp at Brigade Headquarters. On 13 Jun 1864 on detached service as Military Conductor for the U.S. Railroad’s 137th District of Tennessee. On 30 Oct 1864 returned to Company E from detached service and nine days later resigned his commission. Participated in the Battles of Mill Springs, Kentucky, Perryville, Kentucky, and Chickamauga, Georgia. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington Territory. Served as Assistant Adjutant General (1885-1886) for the Department of Washington Territory, Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). Died at his home in Seattle, King County, Washington Territory.
