Born in Illinois. A resident of Shirland, Winnebago County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 7th Wisconsin Infantry. Wounded in action at South Mountain, Maryland on 14 Sep 1862. Discharged for wounds. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. According to a newspaper article published on 30 May 1929, he was one of the 40 remaining members of Custer Post, which 20 years prior had a membership of more than 300. On 21 Jul 1929, he and his second wife Nellie were admitted to the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil, Kitsap County, Washington. He died in the Veterans Home Hospital. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
