Born in Clinton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Enlisted in the 4th California Infantry for three years at Volcano, Amador County, California. Appointed 4th Sergeant on 22 Sep 1861. Mustered in with Company D at Auburn, Placer County, California on 15 Oct 1861. In Nov 1861 Company D was sent to Oregon and stationed at Fort Yamhill, Oregon until Aug 1863 and then moved to Fort Hoskins, Oregon until Oct 1864. On 25 Mar 1863 Sgt Lowe was on detached service at Fort Hoskins, Oregon. From 28 Sep 1863 to 30 Sep 1864 Sgt Lowe was on detached duty at Siletz Blockhouse (Siletz River Indian Reservation). Mustered out and discharged at the expiration of his term of service at Fort Vancouver, Washington Territory. Enlisted in the 1st Oregon Infantry for three years at Salem, Marion County, Oregon on 7 Dec 1864. Mustered in as 1st Sergeant of Company C at Salem, Oregon on 27 Dec 1864. Mustered out at Fort Vancouver, Washington Territory on 31 Oct 1865. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. On 8 Nov 1895 admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington and discharged on 14 Jun 1896. On 22 Apr 1899 admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California where he died. His headstone mistakenly indicates he served in Company F, 4th California Infantry.
