Born in Ohio. Enlisted in the 136th Ohio Infantry (National Guard) for 100 days. Mustered in as a Private in Company C at Camp Chase, Ohio on 13 May 1864. On 20 May 1864 the Regiment was placed on garrison duty at Forts Ellsworth, Williams, and North, part of the defenses of Washington, DC, south of the Potomac River. It remained on garrison duty during its term of service. Mustered out with his Company at Camp Chase, Ohio. Appointed Postmaster at Hillhurst, Pierce County, Washington on 17 Jun 1897. A member of Shiloh Post No. 77 of Newberg, Yamhill County, Oregon. Transferred to Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington on 24 May 1913. Admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington on 13 May 1914 where he died.
