Born in Harrison County, Ohio. A resident of Santa Anna, DeWitt County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 41st Illinois Infantry for three years at Decatur, Macon County, Illinois. Mustered in as a Corporal in Company C the same day he enlisted. Discharged for disability at Cairo, Alexander County, Illinois. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California on 3 Jun 1890 and discharged at his own request on 16 Oct 1891. Admitted to the Veterans' Home of California at Yountville, Napa County, California on 10 May 1892 and discharged at his own request on 6 Sep 1892. Admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington on 25 Jun 1896 and discharged at his own request on 12 May 1897. He would be re-admitted to the Soldiers Home three times, last time being on 22 Jan 1902, where he died.
