Born in North Carolina. Enlisted in the 29th Missouri Infantry for three years at St. Louis, Missouri. Mustered in as a Private in Company I at Benton Barracks, Missouri on 25 Sep 1862. On 19 Nov 1862 assigned extra duty as blacksmith with the Regimental Quartermaster. On 21 Jan 1863 reported as deserting near Milliken's Bend, Louisiana. But on 27 May 1863 reported to camp for duty having been taken prisoner on 19 Jan 1863. On 25 Oct 1863 left sick at Cherokee, Alabama. Sep-Oct 1864 on duty as regimental blacksmith at division headquarters by order of Colonel Gage. On 10 Nov 1864 relieved of extra duty as blacksmith with the Regimental Quartermaster. Mustered out at Washington, DC. Appointed Postmaster at Bismarck, Pierce County, Washington on 26 Apr 1890. Became a member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington during the first quarter of 1891. Admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington on 8 Aug 1902. Re-admitted to the Soldiers Home on 11 Jan 1912. Died in the Western Washington Hospital for the Insane at Fort Steilacoom, Pierce County, Washington.
