Born in Brooklyn, New York. A resident of Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska Territory when he enlisted in the 1st Nebraska Territory Infantry for three years at Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska Territory. Mustered in as a Private in Company D the same day he enlisted. Promoted to Corporal on 30 Jul 1861. May-Sep 1862 on daily duty as a guard at General Headquarters. Oct 1862 on detached service at Brigade Headquarters. Nov-Dec 1862 sent to Patterson, Missouri with supply train. Jul-Aug 1863 on duty at Regimental Quartermaster Department and continued there for Sep-Nov 1863 as a teamster. On 6 Nov 1863 the designation of the Regiment changed to 1st Nebraska Territory Cavalry. On 28 Nov 1863 reduced to the ranks as a result of not having a pass for a card game. Jan 1864 served as Company cook. 10 Mar 1864 on detached service as Provost prison guard at Batesville, Arkansas. Mustered out and discharged at the expiration of his term of service at Omaha, Nebraska Territory. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington on 20 Feb 1894 and discharged at his own request on 26 Oct 1899. Re-admitted to the Soldiers Home on 8 Dec 1899 and discharged on 19 Sep 1900 and again re-admitted on 24 Nov 1900 where he died.
