Born in Waddington, St. Lawrence County, New York. Enlisted in the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry for three years at Watertown, Wisconsin. Mustered in as a Private in Company A at Ripon, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin on 1 Sep 1861. Transferred to the 90th Company, 2nd Battalion, Veteran Reserve Corps on 15 Jan 1864. Discharged at the expiration of his term of service at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Joined Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington by reinstatement on 14 Jun 1913. On 27 Jun 1913 admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington where he died. Some records spell his last name as "Forsythe".
