Born in Brewer, Penobscot County, Maine. A resident of Hamden, New Haven County, Connecticut when he enlisted in the 20th Connecticut Infantry. Mustered in as a Corporal in Company I at New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut on 8 Sep 1862. Promoted to Sergeant on 5 May 1864. Mustered out at Fort Lincoln, Washington, DC. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. On 1 Dec 1898 admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington where he died. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
