Born in Michigan. A resident of LaPorte County, Indiana when he enlisted in the 138th Indiana Infantry for 100 days at Michigan City, LaPorte County, Indiana. Mustered in as a Private in Company D on 27 May 1864. Mustered out at Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. Appointed Postmaster of Longbranch, Pierce County, Washington on 8 Aug 1904. Joined Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington on 13 Nov 1909. Served as Post Officer of the Day for 1912. Began 1913 as Junior Vice Commander. Elected Senior Vice Commander on 15 Mar 1913 and resigned on 10 May 1913. Later joined Sedgwick Post No. 10 of Salem, Marion County, Oregon. Admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California on 6 Jul 1918 and discharged at his own request on 4 Feb 1920, readmitted in Mar 1924 and discharged at his own request on 19 Aug 1924. Admitted to the Oregon Soldiers Home at Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon on 25 Oct 1924. Died in the Soldiers Home Hospital at Roseburg, Oregon.
