Born in Harrison County, Tennessee. Enlisted in the 1st California Cavalry for one year at Santa Fe, New Mexico Territory. Mustered in as a Private the same day he enlisted. For the balance of Oct 1864, he was on detached service as Brigadier General Carleton's escort at Santa Fe. Nov-Dec 1864 temporarily attached to Company B. 31 Dec 1864 dropped from Company B rolls per a special order from Headquarters Fort Sumner, New Mexico Territory. Jan-Feb 1865 unassigned posted at Fort Sumner. Mar-Sep 1865 detached service at Alma Gorda Picket, New Mexico Territory per verbal order of General Carleton. Mustered out at the expiration of his term of service at Fort Sumner. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington Territory. Admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California on 7 Aug 1916 and discharged on 19 Nov 1929. Re-admitted on 22 Nov 1929 and discharged on 8 Dec 1930. Re-admitted a final time on 18 Dec 1930. He would die at the Soldiers Home.
