Born in Livingston County, Illinois. A resident of Fairbury, Livingston County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 3rd Illinois Cavalry for three years at Fairbury, Illinois. Mustered in as a Private in Company K at Camp Butler, Illinois on 24 Aug 1861. Re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer for three years on 21 Feb 1864. Re-mustered at Port Hudson, Louisiana on 24 Mar 1864. Transferred to Company A. Mustered out at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington on 18 Mar 1896 and discharged on 14 Jun 1896. On 1 Jul 1908 admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California where he died.
