Born in County Cork, Ireland. Served five enlistments in the U.S. Navy. His rating for his second enlistment was Coal Heaver, for his third and fourth enlistments it was 2nd Class Fireman, and for his final enlistment it was 1st Class Fireman. During the Civil War he served aboard the USS North Carolina, USS Iroquois, and USS New Ironsides. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Admitted on 26 Feb 1892 to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California and discharged at his own request on 28 Mar 1893. Admitted on 21 Apr 1893 to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington and discharged at his own request on 19 Mar 1895. Readmitted on 9 Apr 1895 to the National Home at Sawtelle, California where he died.
