Born in Clinton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Enlisted in the 15th Massachusetts Infantry for three years at Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Mustered in as a Private in Company C the same day he enlisted. On 4 Apr 1862 was on detached service in the Medical Purveyor's Department. On 17 Sep 1862 during the Battle of Antietam, Maryland, he was wounded in his right thigh. On 24 Sep 1862 reported in the hospital. On 1 Jan 1863 he was serving as a nurse at Walnut Street Hospital, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. May-Jun 1863 serving as a nurse at General Hospital, York, Pennsylvania. Transferred to Company D, 22nd Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps on 15 Jan 1864. Re-enlisted on 26 Apr 1864. Mustered out on 19 Nov 1865. Beginning in Jul 1866 he would serve five enlistments in the U.S. Army. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Later would transfer to John A. Martin Post No. 153 at the Soldiers Home, Los Angeles County, California. Elected as an Alternate to the 1893 Department Encampment. On 3 Dec 1890 admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California where he died.
