Born in Pennsylvania. Enlisted as a Bugler in Jones' Independent Company, Pennsylvania Cavalry. Mustered in on 24 Jun 1863 and discharged on 12 Aug 1863. A resident of Bucks County, Pennsylvania when he enlisted in the 6th Pennsylvania Cavalry (70th Volunteers) for three years at Frankford, Pennsylvania. Mustered in as a Private in Company L the same day he enlisted. On 17 Jun 1865 transferred to Company L, 2nd Pennsylvania Provisional Cavalry. Mustered out at Lebanon, Marion County, Kentucky. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Served as Post Commander in 1919. Admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California on 13 Feb 1920 where he would eventually die.
