Born in Meddybemps, Washington County, Maine. A resident of Wataga, Knox County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 138th Illinois Infantry for 100 days at Wataga, Illinois. Mustered in as a Corporal in Company B at Quincy, Adams County, Illinois on 21 Jun 1864. Mustered out at Camp Butler, Springfield, Illinois. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Admitted on 1 Aug 1901 to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington and discharged at his own request on 13 Sep 1904. Readmitted to the Soldiers Home on 20 Feb 1905 and discharged at his own request on 25 Sep 1905. Again, readmitted to the Soldiers Home on 21 Oct 1905 and transferred to the Washington State Soldiers Home Colony at Orting, Washington on 23 Jul 1907. Readmitted to the Soldiers Home on 15 Sep 1911 and honorably discharged on 21 Mar 1912 to facilitate his admission to the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil, Kitsap County, Washington which occurred on 20 Mar 1912. Died at Annapolis, Kitsap County, Washington.
