Born in Andrew County, Missouri. Enlisted in the 4th Missouri State Militia Cavalry for three years at Forest City, Holt County, Missouri. Mustered in as a Private in Company B at St. Joseph, Missouri on 23 Mar 1862. Mustered out at Chapel Hill, Lafayette County, Missouri on 1 Sep 1864 to re-enlist as a Veteran Volunteer in the 13th Missouri Cavalry at Chapel Hill, Missouri on 2 Sep 1864. Mustered in as a Private in Company K at Sedalia, Pettis County, Missouri on 17 Sep 1864. 22-23 Oct 1864 at Battle of Big Blue River, Jackson County, Missouri. 25 Oct 1864 at Battle of Little Osage, Linn County, Kansas. Mustered out at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Admitted on 13 Aug 1912 to the Washington State Soldiers Home at Orting, Pierce County, Washington. He and his wife Mary Elizabeth were admitted on 30 Apr 1920 to the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil, Kitsap County, Washington where he died. His headstone incorrectly identifies that he served in the 13th Missouri State Militia Cavalry, when he actually served in the 13th Missouri Cavalry.
