Born in Ohio. Enlisted in the 60th Ohio Infantry for three years. Mustered in as a Private in Company E at Camp Chase, Ohio on 15 Apr 1864. Discharged for promotion and transfer to the 198th Ohio Infantry. Mustered in as 2nd Lieutenant of Company B at Camp Chase, Ohio on 21 Apr 1865. Mustered out with his Company at Camp Chase, Ohio. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington Territory. Transferred to Phil H. Sheridan Post No. 44 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington Territory to become a charter member. Served the Post as Officer of the Day for 1889 and 1890. Later transferred back to Custer Post No. 6. Served the Post as Junior Vice Commander in 1911, Senior Vice Commander in 1912, and Commander in 1913. He died at his home in Tacoma, Washington during his term as Post Commander. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
