Born in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan. Enlisted in the 7th Michigan Cavalry for three years at Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mustered in as a Private in Company G on 23 Jan 1863. Promoted to Corporal on 17 Jun 1865. Mustered out at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Served the Post as Senior Vice Commander in 1885 and Commander in 1888. Transferred to John A. Winslow Post No. 87 of Tacoma, Washington. As a member of Winslow Post, he was elected Senior Vice Commander in 1893 and Commander in 1896 of the Department of Washington and Alaska. He later transferred back to Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Washington. While on duty as bailiff for Judge E. M. Card's court, he dropped dead in a corridor of the County Court House in Tacoma, Washington.
