Born in Hopkinton, St. Lawrence County, New York. Enlisted for three years in the 7th New York Heavy Artillery at Hopkinton, New York. Mustered in as a Private in Company I on 29 Dec 1863. Captured on 16 Jun 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia. Confined at Andersonville, Georgia. Released at Fort Pulaski, Georgia 24 Nov 1864. Mustered out at Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. According to a newspaper article published on 30 May 1929, he was one of the 40 remaining members of Custer Post, which 20 years prior had a membership of more than 300. Died in Tacoma, Washington. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
