Born in Macoupin County, Illinois. A resident of Barr's Store, Macoupin County, Illinois when he enlisted in the 91st Illinois Infantry. Mustered in as a Private in Company K the same day he enlisted. Mustered out at Springfield Sangamon County, Illinois. A member of Thomas A. Weisner Post No. 350 of Greenfield, Greene County, Illinois. Served as Post Commander. Later joined Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Served the Post as Surgeon in 1894, Senior Vice Commander in 1905, Commander in 1906, Chaplain in 1912 and 1917, and Surgeon in 1919. Died in Tacoma, Washington. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery.
