Born in England. A resident of Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas when he enlisted in the 1st Kansas Infantry on 3 Jun 1861. Mustered in as a Private in Company D the same day he enlisted. Wounded in action during the Battle of Wilson's Creek, Missouri on 10 Aug 1861. Discharged on 19 Sep 1861 for disability on account of wounds received in action. A resident of Emporia, Lyon County, Kansas when he enlisted as a Private in the 11th Kansas Cavalry. Promoted to Sergeant and mustered in to Company E on 13 Sep 1862. Promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant. Mustered out with his Company. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. The Post elected him as an Alternate to the 1909 Encampment of the Department of Washington and Alaska, Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). Died in Tacoma, Washington. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery. Some military records spell his last name as "Moyes".
