Born in Germany. Enlisted in the 12th Missouri Infantry for three years at Belleville, Illinois. Mustered in as a Private in Company B at St. Louis Arsenal, Missouri on 16 Aug 1861. Shot and slightly wounded in his forehead while at his station at Walnut Hills, Mississippi in a battle at the rear of Vicksburg on 22 May 1863. On 30 Sep 1863 on extra duty at the Regimental Quartermaster. On 7 Dec 1863 returned to regular duty. Mustered out at St. Louis, Missouri. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Served as Post Commander in 1899. Admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California on 20 Oct 1908. Died in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon while visiting his brother.
