Born in England. Enlisted in the 101st Ohio Infantry for three years. Mustered in as a Private in Company D at Camp Monroeville, Ohio on 30 Aug 1862. Mustered out with his Company at Camp Harker, Tennessee. A member of Custer Post No. 6 of Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. On 8 Jun 1911 admitted to the Washington State Soldiers Home Colony at Orting, Pierce County, Washington. Transferred to the Washington State Veterans Home at Retsil, Kitsap County, Washington where he and his wife Rebecca J. were admitted on 13 Oct 1914. Admitted on 20 Sep 1917 to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California and discharged at his own request on 26 Oct 1917. Apparently, he and his wife were re-admitted to the Washington State Veterans Home, as he died there. He is buried in a G.A.R. section of the cemetery. Sometimes his last name is spelled "Leake".
